Mannat — Immersive Installation

Our project explores the culture of Mannat within mazars and the shared human experience of hope, faith, and vulnerability. We were interested in how people from different social, economic, and personal backgrounds come to the same sacred space carrying wishes, fears, and desires. Despite their differences, the act of making a mannat creates a sense of collective belief and connection. To investigate this phenomenon, we visited mazars, documented the environment, and recorded anonymous audio conversations from visitors about their mannats and personal experiences. Rather than simply presenting our findings, we recreated a mazar within the classroom as an immersive installation. The physical elements—including the chadar, rose petals, religious imagery, and projected visuals—were combined with recorded audio to recreate the sensory atmosphere of the space. The installation aimed to blur the boundary between observation and participation. By entering the space and listening to real voices, viewers were invited to experience the emotions, hopes, and spiritual intentions associated with the culture of mannat.
