Grandmother's Kundan Set

For this project, I connected with my grandmother and explored a significant part of her identity through her memories. During our conversations, she shared how much she loved jewelry, not only wearing it but also designing and assembling pieces herself in her free time. Jewelry was a form of creativity and self-expression that brought her joy. However, after getting married at a young age, her priorities shifted toward caring for her family and fulfilling her responsibilities as a wife and mother. Many of her personal interests gradually took a back seat. Inspired by this story, I created a Kundan jewelry set as a tribute to a passion that was once an important part of her life. The presentation combines jewelry, candles, a traditional wooden box, and heirloom-inspired objects to evoke a sense of nostalgia and memory. The jewelry box acts as a metaphorical archive, preserving not only ornaments but also forgotten dreams, personal aspirations, and fragments of identity. Through this project, I wanted to celebrate my grandmother's creativity and highlight how personal passions can become hidden within the responsibilities of family life. The piece serves as both a remembrance of her story and a recognition of the sacrifices made by many women of her generation.
